Rediscovering her love of oil painting, she believes that where you make art has a profound influence on its outcome. Artist residencies allow her continuing exploration of ‘edge’ places, such as west Ireland, Wales, Iceland and Shetland.
Her painting technique involves building up layers of oil paint mixed with cold wax and scraping into the surface to reveal the hidden layers underneath. She also likes to mix in elements such as sand and ground up rock which she collects from the area she’s working in. More recently, she has been extracting the pigment from rocks and using it to make the paint, thus the landscape IS the painting.
All the works in the current sale are based on memories of the train journeys to and from Dyffryn Ardudwy, the wide sweeping bays, the sun sparkling on the sea and the gentle landscape rising up behind.
