Julian Brasington

Julian Brasington works in print, dry media, and free-form verse. Drawing upon the landscape of his native North Wales, his work explores impermanence (the coming into and out of being) and is an attempt to capture what lies beyond what we see. Fences, groynes, branches screen his landscapes and verse acts as frame and focal point, frequently injecting irony into his prints. He uses a restricted palette of white, through grey, to black, layering line and tone to pull out an image in his drawings and cutting into base materials of lino, wood, and metal to print what remains: an archaeology of sorts.
Julian is currently researching sites for the Llwybr Cadfan exhibition. He will be in residence at Plas Brondanw in May and will be using the time that the residency affords to explore these sites more fully.
