ABOUT
Born out of a love for the Arts
Hello, I'm Mima. I established Oriel Tŷ Meirion in 2018 as an inspirational 'little' arts venue to engage, enlighten and inspire a visiting audience and the local community, whilst supporting artists to develop and promote their careers through curating a programme of exhibitions that showcase in the gallery.
I'm a Visual Arts Practitioner myself and work mainly with Photography and hold a 1st class BA (hons) and Masters. The exhibitions here cover a range of genres and the gallery hosts contemporary artists that predominantly live in Wales or are inspired from the region.
I'm really inspired by nature and the environment and the gallery is conveniently located between the mountains and the sea in Eryri National Park. The village location in Dyffryn Ardudwy is an ideal destination with good access to the most glorious beaches, hill top walks and cultural sites with both Harlech and Barmouth within easy reach. The area has long been a place of farmland and is steeped in ancient history showing many traces of a forgotten time barely recorded in our history books such as stone circles, burial chambers and old drovers roads. Hidden lakes, ancient woodland, legend and folklore add to the adventure of discovery here. When you head into the hills today this part of Eryri retains an untouched charm that avoids the central tourism spots that surround the hub of Yr Wyddfa. It is possible to walk all day here without meeting a soul and when you do meet someone you inevitably stop for a chat.
The region lends itself as a haven for artists and crafters and I couldn't be more proud to be showcasing some of them in my gallery. Every few weeks I curate a new exhibition with a selection of solo and mixed exhibitions for a range of established and emerging artists. There is a focus of artists from the region and beyond and the main themes here explore subjects around nature, landscape and the environment.
There is also an accommodation option above the gallery with shared facilities. I have hosted many visitors from across the globe over the years from a range of backgrounds and particularly welcome fellow walkers and creatives.
I love bringing visitors here to experience Oriel Tŷ Meirion first hand and this unique part of Eryri for themselves with its beauty and wild lands. The remote location away from big cities puts this arts venue on the edge of the map and it is truly a little gem for discovery.
I look forward to meeting you.
Love Mima x
